Project and Programme management
I have a successful track record across a wide range of local authority services. Qualifing as a Chartered Engineer whilst only 24 years of age I quickly moved into project management of major highway schemes holding positions of ‘Resident Engineer’ on several major highway schemes. As Area Engineer for the eastern third of Cumbria in the late 1990’s I administered around 150No. Highway contracts per year.
I then moved into highway maintenance initially as Area Manager for South Lakes and Barrow then Carlisle and Eden. With the extension of ‘Compulsory Competitive Tendering’, I helped create a most successful ‘in house’ consultancy ‘Design & Business Services’. I had overall responsibility for the £12m/year Countywide Highways Maintenance Term Contract whilst also securing a basket of other ‘white collar’ services.
With the creation of a multi-disciplinary approach to technical services I became responsible for a number of Local Practices covering the full range of property and highways local consultancy services. During this time I was also Lead Officer of the ‘Eden Area Committee’ supporting and working closely with elected members across a range of delegated functions as well as acquiring an MBA.
In 2001 ‘Design & Business Services’ were acquired by the Capita Group and I became Director of the Local Practice Division delivering services from eight offices throughout Cumbria typically programming managing over £30m of construction work/annum.
During the 'noughties' I oversaw the programme management of large infrastructure projects, BSF projects , property rationalization and facilities management.
More recently I have returned to my engineering roots delivering hands on Project Management for a number of large Railway Projects for Story Contracting Ltd and a house modernisation for a private householder.
With a wide knowledge of construction as well as general programme and project management I am well placed to ensure the successful delivery of both large and small projects.
